Stash Dash & the Beginning of Summer
Hello? It has been a little while! How have you been? I have been finishing off the last of university. I speak to you now as someone who is no longer a student. I can not quite use the a-word just yet (**adult**, the word makes me shiver). I have one last long summer until I start work which I plan to travel and knit and generally have a great time. (The amazingness almost makes up for the existential terror.)
Needle-lessly Troublesome Gauge
The day after I wrote the last post, two things occurred. The weather got infinitely better and I measured my swatch for Bonny by tincanknits. My gauge was so badly off, I needed to go out into the sunshine and forget about it.
It is a favourite trick of mine to work out the measurements of the garment should I knit it at that gauge. I discovered this trick when chatting to my mother about a swatch she had just knit.
In which a swatch is born
I suffered a betrayal yesterday. I called my mother to ask for knitting advice and she told me to swatch. I know, how horrifying?
Spring is here, and it brought snow
Dear me, I blinked and now it’s April. Apparently, this is what April looks like now:
3 years on, a year off
I moved to Scotland in 2014, when the country was days away from voting in the Independence Referendum. The weather was being stereotypically Scottish in the mix of misty, grey and drizzle-y. The Scottish would call the weather a bit ‘dreich’, but at that point I hadn’t even heard of the word. I was wandering around bemused by how to pronounce ‘Buccleuch’ and ‘Cockburn’, two streets in Edinburgh that are essential to any student trying to meet up with anyone. My pronunciation made a resident of the city nearly cry. Oops?
Birthday Cake Hat
Let’s step away from the actual work for a moment here. Put it down on the ground and slide it away. Everything is going to be fine.
For me, the past month has been a bit confusing with striking lecturers and snow days. There’s been good days but I’ve been meandering along trying to keep up with changing deadlines. As of yesterday, work has been submitted and I’m free to think of knitting! Come join me?
A January Do-Over
I am terrible at New Year’s Resolutions. I know this and that’s why I don’t make them normally. I believe my resolution this year was to find ways to be less stressed and you don’t want to know how that’s currently turning out. Maybe next year, right?
